'Attention all web designers' - Charlie Connelly chooses Blue Smog

Charlie Connelly, author of Attention All Shipping: A Journey Round the Shipping Forecast and other travel and sport books, has asked Blue Smog to re-design his personal site. Attention All Shipping was serialised on BBC Radio 4 and in the Daily Telegraph and led to a lecture at the Royal Geographical Society and a sell-out show at the Edinburgh Festival.

In addition to the re-design, Charlie, a confirmed technophobe, wanted to let his readers know about his latest travel exploits from hotel rooms all over the world. Word Press, an established and excellent Blog, seemed the best solution. This was integrated into the site design and allows for easy site updates. The site also includes a Flash photo gallery.

E-Learning for King's College London

Blue Smog is working with the School of Health and Life Sciences and the School of Biomedical Sciences, at King's College London, and the Grant Museum of Zoology, at University College London, to develop a web based e-learning package entitled 'The Evolution of Human and Vertebrate Structure and Function'. The package will deliver and assess material that is traditionally presented in lectures or investigated through practical exercises. The package will promote a more active approach to learning than is possible from textbooks alone. Students will be able to observe, compare and measure material not available locally, and receive instantaneous feedback on their performance.

The package is due for completion autumn/winter 2007 and will be evaluated by students and teachers at KCL and UCL.

Issues in Medical Ethics and Law: An interactive tutorial

The Centre of Medical Law and Ethics, at King's College London, has developed a standalone CD-ROM e-learning package authored in Toolbook. The package is intended for students, teachers and practitioners working in medicine, nursing and related health care areas. The package contains six scenarios that are delivered in high quality sound and video. The user is asked a question after each sound or video clip; textbook excerpts, World Wide Web links and a comprehensive glossary inform their answer. Scenarios include the issues surrounding genetic testing, drug trials and research, and reproduction.

Blue Smog is pleased to be involved, in a software-testing role, with such an innovative project. The package is due for publication by the Cambridge University Press in 2004/2005.

Cardiac Care Update opt for dynamic upgrade

Cardiac Care Update is a monthly journal that provides a brief overview of recent research findings, treatments and reviews on a wide range of issues relating to cardiac care.

Cardiac Care has used Blue Smog design and hosting services for three years and, we are pleased to announce, has chosen a dynamic upgrade to their existing site. The new site includes a searchable archive of past issues, events calendar, discussion forum, 'send a friend' event or article details, and a member's area. Articles and events can be added and edited via a user-friendly web interface.
